The 13 beaches

Mafra Municipality covers 11 kilometres of coastline and 13 beaches, most of them located in the picturesque fishing village of Ericeira. With choppy seas, salty air, pale rough sand, almost all of them are framed by beautiful rocky cliffs.

From north to south: Porto Barril, Calada, São Lourenço, Coxos, Ribeira d’Ilhas, Empa, Matadouro, São Sebastião, Algodio, Pescadores, Sul, Foz do Lizandro and São Julião. Come and get to know them one by one, and let yourself be captivated by the diversity of landscapes and settings.

Here, you will find excellent conditions for relaxing in the sun, and if you wish to have a more active vacation, for sport fishing and paragliding. But it is the waves that have brought the greatest international fame to this coastal belt: 2011 witnessed the creation of the World Surfing Reserve of Ericeira – the first one in Europe and the second in the world – which has seven world-class waves. And on the several beaches of the Municipality, you will discover waves suited to all tastes and technical levels, whether it is surfing, bodyboarding, stand-up paddling or other board sports.
